City socieites patch

Upkeep costs for individual buildings can be found by mousing over their price on their info card, while your overall maintenance costs for the entire city are shown just under your budget window. Since buildings cost money, you can't afford to have buildings that aren't maximizing their revenue any more. Now, in addition to considering a building's impact on social energies, you'll also have to consider its impact on your bottom line. This means that you're going to have to put a premium on buildings that bring in revenue every single day.

If you find yourself heading into the red on the weekend and you don't have businesses that are open on Saturday and Sunday, you might find that your irate Sims are already picketing your money-making businesses on Monday which is only going to worsen your financial outlook.

Because your Sims are spending more time at work, you're going to need to consider the placement and hours of your entertainment venues just as carefully.

Lengthy travel times to get to venues or poorly planned operating hours are going to make your venues worthless. And since you're paying upkeep on them regardless of whether they're working well or not, you can't afford to have them sitting idle.

This makes the creation of self-sufficient neighborhoods and the inclusion of mass transit assets which also drain money even more important than before. The area of effect overlays that give you a much clearer indication of how your buildings are affecting each other are going to be much more important now.

When you click on the Propaganda Ministry, you'll see an overlay showing you just exactly which buildings are benefiting from its income boost. When you click on your Mission, you'll see which of your religious buildings are benefiting from reduced cost. You didn't need the overlays as much in the release version of Societies but with this new Strategic mode, they're indispensable. The Sims also behave differently in Strategic mode.

Where you used to be able to let your angry Sims blow off steam by temporarily shutting down buildings, this time around the stakes are just too high. Sims won't just reset to happy status once they start picketing so you'll have to actively seek a solution to whatever is troubling them.

If you don't you run a much higher risk of them spawning Criminals who will worsen the overall health of your city.

If you let them stay angry long enough, your Sims will eventually turn into dirty hippies who use up your services but never produce any money. Additionally, gamers who appreciate SimCity Societies as an artistic tool for creating interesting cityscapes will be happy to see a new Winter mod available on the Exchange.

It adds a nice holiday flavor to your cities that's just perfect for reminding you that it's much nicer to be indoors playing on your PC when there is snow on the ground. The team has also added a number of documents and video resources to help the mod community unlock more of the potential of SimCity Societies. Since Societies has been described as "the most moddable" game in the entire series, a little help is probably welcome. You can grab the Winter mod and the modding help files on the Exchange right now.

The gameplay improvement patch should post Friday but could be delayed until Saturday depending on how it does on its final pass through quality control.
