By successfully completing the level indicated in the partner agreement, applicants can begin their studies at Nipissing without further testing.

The Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency field integrates theory and research drawn from social work and Indigenous knowledge for application in the delivery of services and interventions for Indigenous populations. The curriculum is offered through online and intensive classroom formats. Applicants holding the minimum admission requirements are not guaranteed admission. The three-paper dissertation option allows students to write three related papers in a given topic or area of interest in which they have conducted research as required for the PhD program. However, whenever I raised the topic of anti-Black racism, I was met with silence. They never checked in with me — I never felt more silenced. If there are conversations, they are rushed due to the discomfort of individuals at the sound of the word Black. And that yearning to bounce thoughts, ideas, perspectives and grievances off other individuals goes unfulfilled, because the issues of Black communities are rarely on the minds of those in the classroom.
In my experience as a Black student in this program, racism wrung the joy of engaging in thought provoking and challenging discussions in the classroom. The tension of realizing that preserving my mental wellness meant remaining silent, while also recognizing that silence was robbing me of my most powerful tool for learning.
On the last day of class, as I took that deep breath and sobbed, that tension was being released. I was grieving. I have an interesting relationship with resilience in relation to the Black experience of oppression.
